Speaking Engagements

Production Automotive is proud to be recognised as a leader in not only the mechanical industry, but in business as a whole.

Mel has been asked to speak at a number of events about how we have successfully implemented a family-friendly structure. This has been an important part of the growth of the workshop, and Mel has worked hard over the past few years to champion the rights of women and actively encourage businesses to put structures in place to encourage women with children back into the workforce while supporting them in maintaining their role as a parent.

2011 Sydney Women's Leadership Symposium

Discussing the challenges of working in an environment with low gender diversity, Mel was part of a panel that also included Pippa Hallas (CEO of Ella Bache) and Dianna Ryall (MD of Explore for Success and former MD of Apple Australia). Topics centered around concepts such as:

  • How does gender diversity look in your workplace? What is working? What are the challenges?
  • Boys Club/Girls Club - what does it look like and how do we manage it?
  • Do we have to `learn how to lead like a man’?
  • What can we do about promoting diversity generally?
  • What are the issues with career breaks, what can we do about it?
  • What are your views on targets/quotas?
  • What can we do about `unconscious bias’ in men and women?
  • How can our workplaces be more inclusive?

2011 Hunter Business Women's Network

Mel was asked to be the Keynote speaker for the Hunter Business Women's Network May 2011 event.  The Network was interested in hearing about Mel's experience in changing careers, and how introducing innovative work practices have resulted in significant business growth, including the workshop achieving a national score of 99.68% for customer relations and service.

2010 Penrith City Council Gender Equity Forum

At the end of 2010 Mel was asked to speak to the staff of Penrith City Council at their Gender Equity Forum. The Forum was designed to train and educate staff at all levels within the Council on pro-active solutions for ensuring gender equity within the workplace.

Given Production Automotive's success in implementing such objectives, Mel was asked to speak at the Forum and provide information to the Council about the development and ongoing management of gender equity initiatives in the automotive industry.
